An inside look at a training of the NBA draft

In August, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Adam Haluska, the Big Ten's leading scorer last season. Drafted in the second round by the New Orleans Hornets, Adam shared with me some insight into what the pre design trainings as if they were.

In the hearing him describe the exercises and the focus of every workout, I reflected on the fundamentals of the game that 6, 8 and 10-year-olds fog, and when it's good enough for the NBA and the best players in the world, it's definitely a staple in youth basketball in every gym in America.

Adam worked out for clubs such as New Orleans, Phoenix and Dallas.

The drills revolved around offense and included:

1. private lessons competition. All positions and sizes competed together playing the wings and the top of the key.

2. Moved off the dribble.Movements were such as the crossover, double crossover hesitation and the retrograde move.

3.2-on-2. Can you imagine 2 highly respected design picks up together for a game for 2-to-2.This is what I would like to see in every school yard in the whole country. 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 are great ways to play and the game to learn correctly. There must be something to it as NBA general managers and coaches standing around and watching four boys play two-on-two for half an hour, huh?

4. shoot.Tons of shooting drills were part of every workout. Shoot open three, shoot off the dribble, shoot jumpers, pull off screens, and shoot with the help of a spot as the crossover or step back. These exercises are competitive, so that the pressure on the player is that taking pictures. A big focus for all clubs is to set out the guys who can make shots, and make them consistently.

When asked if any of the exercises or techniques taught were new or complex to him, he said no.In fact, it was each drill very basic in nature. When he was in the Los Angeles NBA Summer League played, they put the Hornets staff by some strict drilling and air conditioning. The drill and education segments of practice during this period of two months were very simple and basically constituted.

It was refreshing to know that the basics of the game are taught to the major players and NBA draft picks in camps.Somehow over the years we got it back!Youth basketball, in particular those Youth basketball coach should pay attention to the message in this post and again their philosophy and the emphasis or lack of emphasis on the main elements of the game that are still very treasured at the highest level of the game, the NBA.
